On 1 November 2003, the UK began to implement new pig identification standards. Since August 30, 2004, the United Kingdom has required RFID identification and tracking of horses. Since January 1, 2008, it has been mandatory for sheep to be identified by RFID in Europe. The Australian government has promulgated the "National Animal Product Certification Scheme" based on RFID technology, abbreviated as NLIS. The Beijing 08 Olympic Games also put forward high requirements for food safety, and its suppliers of meat products have applied RFID technology to track in the breeding and slaughtering process.
According to statistics, in 2006, 70 million RFID tags were used for animal identification in countries around the world, and in 2007 it rose to 90 million. At the RFID International Summit Forum held in Beijing in 2008, some experts said that the United States will adopt RFID instead of barcode technology within three years. RFID technology is gradually developing into the vanguard of the post-barcode era, and it currently represents a high level of animal identification technology.
